Soyad® Adhesive Systems

Wood products such as decorative plywood, particleboard, medium-density fiberboard, and engineered wood flooring utilize large amounts of adhesives, most of which contain urea-formaldehyde (UF).  UF releases free formaldehyde into the air over time, going from its solid form in the adhesive to a gaseous form that is ingestible by humans.  Given that formaldehyde was recently classified as a carcinogen, new regulations have been enacted to reduce formaldehyde emissions from wood products.

Ashland ’s adhesive portfolio includes a number of cost-competitive products with excellent performance and environmental attributes. For interior wood products, we offer formaldehyde-free adhesives that not only are strong and water resistant but also are derived from a natural and renewable resource—soybeans. For interior and exterior wood products, we offer soy-based technologies that allow traditional resins to be extended, resulting in a lower-cost adhesive that meets performance requirements.
